Who is Grace Murray Hopper?

Grace Murray Hopper was an American computer scientist, born on December 9, 1906.

In 1928, Hopper graduated with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics from Vassar College. In 1930, she received a Master's degree in mathematics and physics from Yale University. In 1934, she earned a Ph.D in mathematics from Yale University.

During World War II, Hopper became a junior naval officer. She was assigned to the Bureau of Ship Computation Project at Harvard University. She worked on the Mark I computer, an early "giant calculator" that would change her life and lead to her work on the first electrical computer.

In the early 1950s, Grace Hopper developed the first compiler for a computer programming language. The compiler was known as the A compiler.
